Explanation
Casual contractions of the obligation expression: なくては → なくちゃ; なければ → なきゃ. The trailing いけない / ならない is OFTEN dropped, so the contraction alone (たべなくちゃ, いかなきゃ) carries the full 'must' meaning. Highly informal — friend-to-friend and inner-monologue speech only. Formal counterparts: 〜なくてはいけない / 〜なくてはならない / 〜ないといけない.

Common mistakes
✗ 行かなくちゃです。
✓ 行かなくちゃ。 / 行かなければなりません。
なくちゃ / なきゃ are casual contractions - they don't combine with です. The full polite form is 〜なければなりません. Beginners try to politify a contraction by adding です, which sounds wrong.
