〜から〜まで

ENFrom X to Y (paired range - already covered)

JA「〜から〜まで」で、はじまりと おわり、時間や きょりを いいます。「9時から 5時まで」「うちから 学校まで」。

Explanation

Time-axis instance of the paired range marker from から〜まで. The same から (starting point) + まで (ending point) frame applies, with the example set narrowed to clock-time, dates, and durations (e.g., 9時から 5時まで). The non-time uses — distances, places, sequences of items — sit at the parent entry から〜まで.

Common mistakes

✗ 九時まで 五時から しごとです。
✓ 九時から 五時まで しごとです。
Order is start-end: から first, then まで. Reversed order is ungrammatical.
✗ 9時で 5時まで しごとです。
✓ 9時から 5時まで しごとです。
Time range: A から B まで (from A to B). The start point takes から, the end まで. で would mean 'AT 9' (action location at a fixed time). Always pair から + まで for a span.
✗ 9時から 5時で しごとです。
✓ 9時から 5時まで しごとです。
Time-range frame: から (start) + まで (end). The end marker is まで, not で (which would mean 'at 5' for an action). Pair から with まで for any range.

Wrong / corrected pairs

✗ はちじから しちじへ べんきょうします。
✓ はちじから しちじまで べんきょうします。
Range endpoint is まで, not へ.
✗ いちじから にじまでに べんきょうします。
✓ いちじから にじまで べんきょうします。
まで alone for "until"; までに means "by (deadline)". Different meaning.
✗ うちまで がっこうから あるきました。
✓ がっこうから うちまで あるきました。
Standard order: から-clause first, then まで-clause.
