〜より〜のほうが〜です
EN〜より〜のほうが [adj] です - '~ is more [adj] than ~' (focuses on the bigger one)
JA「AよりBの ほうが〜」は AとBを くらべて、Bが〜だ、と いいます。「ねこより いぬの ほうが 大きい」。
Explanation
AよりBのほうが puts emphasis on B as the bigger/more X one. Often answer to a どちら question.

Common mistakes
✗ なつは ふゆより 大きい。
✓ なつは ふゆより あつい です。
Comparison adjective should fit the dimension being compared. (Also, dictionary form alone is too informal; use です.)
✗ AのほうがBより 大きいです。
✓ BよりAのほうが 大きいです。
より marks the standard (B), のほうが marks the topic (A). Standard order: BよりAのほうが 〜.
✗ おおさかが とうきょうのほうが 大きいです。
✓ おおさかより とうきょうのほうが 大きいです。
Comparison pattern: A より B のほうが Adjective. より marks the REFERENCE/STANDARD (the one we compare TO). が in this slot would make 大阪 a subject — but it's the comparison reference, not the predicate's subject.
