Common mistakes
✗ げんき いかが？
✓ お げんきですか。 (or げんき どう？)
いかが is the polite/respectful form of どう, used with です. Plain casual speech uses どう, not いかが.
✗ おしごとは どうだ。
✓ おしごとは どうですか。
どう is the polite/standard question form ('how is it'). The casual どうだ exists but mixes registers when paired with お-honored noun (おしごと). Match the polite request frame お+noun+は+どうですか. Even more formal: いかがですか.
✗ おしごとは どうしてですか。
✓ おしごとは どうですか。
どう = 'how is it' (general state). どうして = 'why' (cause). For asking about general well-being or impression of work, use どうですか. どうしてですか asks for a reason, which doesn't fit the small-talk frame.
Register variants — both forms are correct
These forms differ in register, formality, or pragmatic context — not in grammaticality. Pick by context.
neutral polite — for friends, peers, neutral contexts コーヒー、どうですか。
honorific (尊敬) — elevates the addressee コーヒー、いかがですか。
Both are polite. どう is the neutral polite question; いかが is its honorific variant used with seniors, customers, formal contexts.

どう takes no particle (adverb-like). Just どう + ですか.
