ENSentence-final confirmation / agreement particle

JA「〜ね」(かくにん)

Explanation

ね at sentence-end seeks agreement or shared feeling - 'isn't it?', 'right?'. Used when the speaker assumes the listener has the same view.

Register variants — both forms are correct

These forms differ in register, formality, or pragmatic context — not in grammaticality. Pick by context.

Seeking agreement (ね) あした 雨が ふりますね。
Informing (よ) あした 雨が ふりますよ。
ね seeks the listener's agreement; よ tells them new information. Both correct - choose by intent.
Informing (よ) いい てんきですよ。
Seeking agreement (ね) いい てんきですね。
よ informs; ね seeks agreement. Both correct - choose by intent.
Shared agreement (よね) いい てんきですよね。
Agreement (ね) いい てんきですね。
よね (emphasis + shared agreement) and ね (agreement) are both correct; choose by nuance.

Wrong / corrected pairs

✗ いいね てんきです。
✓ いい てんきですね。
ね is a sentence-final particle - it goes at the very end (after です), not mid-sentence.
✗ がくせいですね。
✓ がくせいですか。
Context: asking about listener. For factual yes/no question use か. ね assumes the speaker already believes the proposition.
✗ たべますね だ。
✓ たべますね。
ね attaches at the END; do not add だ/です after.
